Students/Community Shines during Annual

Alamogordo High School Scholarship & Awards Night

It was a banner year as educators, graduating high school students, Awards Collageparents and the community came together to honor the Alamogordo High School Class of 2019 scholarship winners during its annual award night Tuesday, April 30 at the Alamogordo High School Cafeteria.  Scholarships totaling approximately $2,182,956.00 were awarded by groups from the Alamogordo Community and area colleges and universities.

Opening the ceremonies was Dr. Ken Moore, Principal at Alamogordo High School who emphasized that it was during these times it made him proud “to get to be a Tiger.”

Of the many awards given, noticeably recognized were the evening’s “Golden A” award winners. The Golden A is the top award given to individual seniors for outstanding proficiency during their high school career in a given department and is awarded on the basis of grade. Nine of these awards were given to these outstanding graduating seniors.

The ceremony highlighted the accomplishments of many of Alamogordo community leaders through scholarships awarded based on given Memorials for their civic contributions.  Among those presenting awards included 97-year old local Harold Tharp, who reminded students to give back to their communities once they finished their college, university and trade school studies. His greatest accomplishment he said was “giving back” to the community he so loved.

Community scholarships given are often the results of year-long fundraising efforts by some of these organizations.

Organizing the event included Ms. Bobbie Lawhorn and her co-workers within the Alamogordo High School Guidance Department.
